Summit County Release Records
A release is the end of one custody placement, not always the end of every legal restraint. A person at Summit County Jail may leave after posting bond, completing a sentence, receiving a dismissal or court order, or starting probation. The same physical departure may instead be a transfer to the Utah Department of Corrections, another jail, federal custody, or an immigration authority. A transfer is not a community release. That distinction explains why a name disappearing from the county list is only a lead.
The useful county record is the booking and custody history held by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. It can tie the booking number to a booked time, a release time, and a release disposition or destination when those fields are maintained and public. State prisoners follow a different trail. The UDC offender search uses a “Release Date/Type” field and may continue to show someone on parole. A Board decision, court order, or VINE event answers a related question, but none is automatically the Sheriff’s minute-by-minute release entry.
A person missing from the current roster may have been released, transferred, or omitted during an update. Confirm the outcome before treating absence as release.
Summit County Release Types
The next source depends on the legal event. Bond permits a person to leave pretrial custody while the case continues. Time served ends the jail portion of a sentence, though probation may follow. A dismissal can support release unless another warrant or hold remains. Parole is conditional release from state imprisonment, while probation is court-ordered supervision that may begin without a prison term. A receiving-agency entry means custody changed hands.

Summit County Release Record Fields
The public “Current Inmate List, by Name” is not a release database. Its observed fields are Name, Booking Number, Location, and Time Incarcerated, followed by a housed-person total and technical filters. It has no release time, release reason, charge, bond, photo, court, or destination. The date-coded PDF is a custody snapshot. No official update cadence or online retention period was found.
A focused records request should describe the record needed rather than ask the Sheriff to solve an open-ended question. The requested inventory below reflects the fields that can distinguish release from transfer. Production and redaction still depend on what Summit County maintains and what Utah law permits.

Request Summit County Release Records
The preferred online route is Summit County’s NextRequest portal. Select the Sheriff or correct department and give a narrow date span. Include a full name, booking number if known, approximate booking date, and a request for booking time, release time, release type, destination, and any legally releasable image. Ask for electronic delivery and a fee estimate. The Sheriff’s forms page and downloadable GRAMA form are alternate written routes.
- Identify the person and county booking with enough detail to avoid a name collision.
- Describe the custody-history or booking/release record and the exact fields sought.
- Choose a narrow time range and ask for segregable public portions if some data is protected.
- Request electronic delivery, seek a fee estimate, and set a limit on unapproved cost.
- Keep the response, denial, or no-record notice with its date and cited authority.
Records administration lists weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., telephone 435-615-3501, and fax 435-608-4361. Under Utah Code §63G-2-204, an entity ordinarily responds as soon as reasonably possible and no later than ten business days, subject to the statute’s public-benefit track, clarification, fees, and extraordinary circumstances. A request may be granted, denied with grounds, routed to a likely custodian, or delayed under an applicable provision.

Summit County Bond Release Limits
Summit County distinguishes a new bondable charge from a hold that money cannot clear. The Sheriff’s bail instructions discuss cash, credit card, and cashier’s-check payment for eligible charges, while the warrant directive controls whether cash or bond applies. “No Bail,” AP&P, and judge holds require a judge’s order. Payment on one charge therefore does not prove that the jail released the person if another hold remains.
The official bail page captures that local difference. It is useful when a family knows a payment was made but the person still appears in custody.
Ask jail staff whether all holds cleared and whether the person left custody or moved under another authority.
Summit County Release Access Law
Utah’s Government Records Access and Management Act, Title 63G, Chapter 2, separates public, private, controlled, and protected records. A booking file can contain both releasable and restricted parts. Medical, victim, juvenile, security, personal, active-investigation, probation, and parole details may be withheld or redacted. GRAMA is an access law, not a universal retention schedule, and no Summit-specific published retention term for online release entries was established.
Expungement changes ordinary public access to a qualifying case. The Utah Courts expungement materials explain that the petition-based waiting period generally runs from the latest of case completion, jail or prison release, or the end of probation or parole. Physical release and final discharge can therefore be different dates. Sealed, juvenile, expunged, or otherwise nonpublic matters may be absent from a public search without suggesting that the agency lost the record.

Find Summit County Released Inmates
Start with jurisdiction, not with a broad name search. For a Summit arrest and county-only case, check the current roster. If the name remains, it reflects custody at that report’s snapshot time. If the person is absent, call Summit County Jail at 435-615-3723 with the full name, birth date, and booking number when known. Ask whether the person was released, transferred, or held under a different status. A telephone answer is a timely lead; note the office, date, time, and response.

Summit County UDC Release Search
The Utah Department of Corrections search covers people currently under UDC supervision. It does not cover a Summit pretrial detainee who has not entered state jurisdiction, and it is not a complete archive of fully discharged people. Search by required first and last name, optional middle name, or offender number. The result table shows Offender Number, Offender Name, Date of Birth, and a More Information/View link.
The detail view lists Offender Number, Name, Location, Housing Facility, Release Date/Type, Case Manager, and Case Manager Email. Read the values together. A community location and assigned case manager can show that imprisonment ended while supervision continues. A housing facility should not be relabeled as release. If no former state prisoner appears, check the Board decision portal, court record, or request a UDC record.

Summit County Release Court Trails
Summit County Justice Court handles Class B and C misdemeanors. Felony and higher-level records belong in District Court, so searching only the county Justice Court can miss the controlling case. Look for a dismissal, plea, sentence, credit for time served, probation order, commitment, warrant, satisfaction, or termination. A signed court order explains legal authority but does not always prove when jail staff completed the physical release. Recent jail activity may also precede docket entry. Pair the order with the Sheriff release timestamp. For older Summit matters, search historical Park City and Coalville captions as well as the modern Silver Summit location.
Can “case closed” confirm release? No. It describes the court file, not the exact end of physical custody, and another hold or agency may control the person.
Summit County Release Reentry Programs
The county jail describes substance-use treatment, education, vocational and life-skills programs, and inmate work as tools that support community integration. UDC’s April 2025 county-jail program book adds AA and NA, St. Mary’s services, mental-health sessions, and 34 work assignments. It estimated savings near $60,000 for inside work and more than $40,000 for outside community projects. Those are facility-level facts, not proof that one released person received a named service.
Post-release supervision is also distinct from reentry programming. UDC Adult Probation and Parole may supervise parole or probation, while local Summit probation deals with county court supervision. Region 3 records, Board decisions, warrants, and the governing court order help distinguish state supervision from county supervision.
Summit County Release Facility Facts
Summit County calls its jail a full-service facility and reports capacity for 100 people. The April 2025 UDC contract book reports 99 total beds and 35 contracted or available to Corrections. Both figures should remain attributed because the slight difference reflects the source and date. The building includes medical and dental services, a kitchen, and court access designed to reduce transports.

The county holds pretrial arrestees, convicted misdemeanor offenders, and some contracted UDC prisoners. A UDC prisoner’s departure from the building is usually a state transfer, not a local release. That dual role is why the person’s legal custodian must be established before choosing a search.
Summit County State Release Transfers
UDC’s Release Day FAQ says Tuesday processing is standard for state releases and almost all contract-county-jail prisoners first return to Utah State Correctional Facility. Direct release of a UDC prisoner from a contract county jail is described as extremely rare. Completed releases are generally handled through the USCF Visiting building, and community-correctional-center placements are transported by UDC.
People without rides may be taken to nearby UTA TRAX and released later in the sequence. These are state-prison logistics only. No official Summit source established a standard release hour, exit door, family waiting point, transport aid, property handoff, or account-refund method for ordinary county detainees. Call the jail for those local details and do not apply UDC’s Tuesday policy to a county bond release.
Summit County Release Notification Paths
VINELink offers a specific-person custody check and event registration. Select Utah, choose the relevant system shown, match the person by identity and facility details, then register for the displayed phone, email, text, or other channel. Treat the exact event label with care. A transfer, move to a county jail, or future parole-date alert is not the same as completed community release. County participation and feed timing should be verified with the jail.
The Utah selection and specific-person workflow support notification, but the originating agency remains the source for a certified event.
Federal cases require separate tools. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a release date or a no-longer-in-BOP status for many federal prisoners from 1982 forward.
A recent USMS pretrial detainee may not yet be a sentenced BOP prisoner. ICE’s locator covers immigration custody and a limited recent-release window, but an ICE result after a Summit transfer describes immigration status, not the county release event. No federal prison or dedicated ICE detention center was identified in Summit County.

Each official system answers a narrow question. Two-source agreement is strongest when the outcome could be release or transfer. Use the Sheriff record for the physical county event, a court record for legal authority, UDC and Board records for state status, and federal locators only for their own custody.

Summit County Release Facilities
Summit County Jail is the county detention facility for local arrests, short county sentences, and some UDC contract beds. A local detainee may return to the community or transfer; its Sheriff custody record supplies the county release trail. Utah Department of Corrections controls state institutions and community supervision. A state prisoner in a Summit contract bed usually returns to USCF before community release, then remains traceable through UDC and Board sources while supervision continues.
No separate municipal lockup, Utah state prison, federal prison, or dedicated ICE detention center was identified inside Summit County. The facility map therefore does not invent local pages for systems that only serve as downstream locators. Call the correct custodian when a release destination is unclear.
